When it comes to working within the hospitality industry, most people will, at some time in their career, have worked for a hotel. Hotels do range hugely from just a basic place to sleep, to lavish 5 star world famous hotels and even 7 stars in Dubai which have the best of everything including Michelin star food & world class wines and also having the very best in pampering and spa facilities. But if we just take London for example, there are over 700 hotels to choose from so one is not short on choice and that means lots of jobs.

Getting a hotel job can indeed be a great experience, as usually there will be a large mix of cultures and personalities and normally there is something interesting or entertaining going on. Often long hours are required due to the often demanding customers who have needs 24 hours a day but rewards are there though and often people can become so accustomed to working in hotels that it becomes a way of life for many. There are lots of different job positions within any hotel, from a brigade of chefs and kitchen staff, through to porters, receptionists, bar staff, cleaning staff, banqueting and events managers, engineers, sales and marketing teams plus many more.

Some of the high class hotels offer the best cuisine available, often outperforming many of the good restaurants and as a result some hotels will use their weight to attract some of the best chefs in the business to open within the hotel a high quality restaurant, sometimes gaining Michelin star standards which improves and enforces the hotel’s reputation. Competition is fierce in this business with everyone wanting a piece of the cake but this competition is healthy and does keep the quality & standards high.

The general hotel trade is, perhaps surprisingly, busier than ever, which can make it a stable job/career to be in. The internet has made things much easier to find & read reviews about hotels and booking online has become very easy indeed.
